Gauge Report · for buyers
The number to open with.
Before you make an offer: a dated report on the exact boat you’re buying, from every comparable boat we’ve seen listed. What to open at, what to aim for, and when to walk away.
Open at £108,000, aim for £131,000, walk away above £141,500; the likely range is £108,000 to £162,000.
- 2 of the 17 comparable boats we’ve seen on dates at least two weeks apart have cut their asking price.
- The example asking price is 8.4% over the Gauge Estimate of £131,000 for a 1990 at typical hours.
What’s inside
Eight sections on three pages about one boat. Dated, with the basis of every figure, so you can hand it to a seller or a broker.
- Negotiation rangeWhat to open at, aim for and walk away above, with the reasoning in plain words.
- Every comparable boatAll of them, not the free page’s selection: year, hours, VAT, where it was listed, the asking price and the month we saw it, with a link to each listing that is still live.

- Time on the marketHow long comparable boats have been listed so far, and how many have cut. Time to sell itself is not yet measured.

Questions
Is a Gauge Report a survey?
No. It measures what the market is asking for boats like the one you’re buying and suggests an offer range. A surveyor inspects the boat itself; you still need one, and the report’s checklist tells you what to ask them to look at.
What if there aren’t enough comparable boats?
We check before you pay. If the model has fewer than five boats listed, or the report would have fewer than eight comparables, we tell you and don’t take payment.
Can I show it to the seller or their broker?
Yes. It’s dated, states the basis of every figure, and links to the public page, so they can check it for themselves.
The boat isn’t listed anywhere. Can I still get one?
Yes, if you know the model, year and price being asked. Leave the listing link blank and add its engine hours if you know them; without hours the estimate is for typical hours, and the report says so.
I’m a broker. Is this for me?
Brokers get client-ready seller sheets in Pro. See Hull Gauge for brokers.
