What is your boat worth?

A figure after one answer, and a tighter one as you add what you know. From boats of the same model listed across Europe and the US. Free, no email, no broker call.

required

Boats with hours close to yours count for more; boats that don't state hours count as usual.

Where it's listed

The market the boat is advertised in. Boats listed there count in full, the rest at 30%. Not sure? Leave it blank.

optional · doesn't change the estimate

The estimate is worked out in your browser. Only the model you pick is sent, to fetch its boats; your other answers stay here, and nothing you enter is stored. The address, and any link you copy, carries your answers.

What decides a boat's value

What we can measure, across every model we track, and what we can't yet.

  1. 1Model and sizesets the scaleEvery estimate is read from boats of the same model only, so everything else adjusts from that model's own market. 4,717 models are published today.
  2. 2Age4.2%–7.3% a yearHalf of the 371 models with a published depreciation curve lose between 4.2% and 7.3% of their asking price for each year of age; 8 models gain with age. A curve needs 20 boats across six build years.
  3. 3Where it's listedabout the sameLike for like (the same model and build year, in today's prices), boats listed in the UK ask about the same as boats listed in Europe, across 1,211 matched model-years.
  4. 4Engine hoursnot measured yetThe estimate gives more weight to boats whose hours are close to yours, but we don't publish an effect until it holds like for like.
  5. 5VAT statusnot measured yetToo few listings state VAT status to compare like for like. Where a model has five boats each side, the tool asks for it; it doesn't change the estimate.
  6. 6Conditionnot measured yetListings don't grade condition in a way we can compare, so the estimate can't see it. A survey can.

When you need a surveyor instead

A Gauge Estimate tells you what the market is asking for boats like yours. That's the right number for pricing a sale, checking a listing, or knowing roughly what you own.

Insurers, lenders and courts usually need a surveyor who has inspected the boat itself. Use this to sanity-check that figure, not to replace it.

Questions

Is this valuation free?

Yes. The Gauge Estimate is free, instant and needs no email address. It is worked out in your browser and nothing you enter is stored. No seller, broker or listing pays to change a figure.

Is it the same as a survey valuation?

No. It measures what the market is asking for boats like yours. A surveyor inspects the boat itself; insurers, lenders and courts usually need a surveyor's valuation.

How accurate is it?

Every estimate comes with a likely range that holds about half of comparable boats, and a tier: Firm with 25 or more comparable boats, Indicative with 8 to 24, Provisional with 5 to 7. Below five we don't estimate that year; we show the model's figure across all years and say so.

Is this what my boat will sell for?

No. It is what comparable boats are asking. We haven't yet measured how far sale prices land below asking, so we don't publish a figure for it.

Why don't you ask about condition?

Because we can't measure it. Listings don't grade condition in a way we can compare. We ask only what the estimate uses: the year built, engine hours and where the boat is listed. VAT status is asked only for models where five boats state it each side, and it doesn't change the estimate.
